On 14 August 1968, Private First Class Robert Gean Cooper was serving with D Company, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, in Kontum Province, South Vietnam.
On that day, PFC Cooper was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.
