Michael Roy Clasen was born on 8 July 1946.

On 25 August 1968, Hospital Corpsman Third Class Michael Roy Clasen was serving with Headquarters & Service Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, HM3 Clasen was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
