Ramon Antonio Acevedo-Aponte was born on 30 October 1953 in Penuelas, Puerto Rico. He lived in Watertown, NY, and was the eighth of ten children. Acevedo-Aponte enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1982. He took part in the invasions in Granada in 1983, and Panama in 1989, the Gulf War in 1990, and was in Bosnia at the end of last decade. He was currently serving his third deployment in Iraq and been there approximately seven months. On 26 October 2005, Sergeant First Class Ramon Antonio Acevedo-Aponte was assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 3rd Forward Support Battalion, Division Support Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, GA. The unit was currently deployed in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On that day, SFC Acevedo-Aponte was Killed in Action when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near his Humvee in Rustamiyah, Iraq. Medals & Awards Purple Heart Personal Life Ace was a father who loved his children. He was a chess champion and had studied engineering in the University Enclosure of Mayagüez. Burial Sergeant First Class Ramon Antonio Acevedo-Aponte is buried at Cementerio Nuevo de Peñuelas in Penuelas, Puerto Rico. |
