Following his graduation from the Naval Academy, he served 5 years active duty in the Navy, including service in the Korean Conflict. He continued to serve our country in the U.S. Navy reserve for the next 32 years.

As a reservist, he was most honored to have served 2 years as Team Captain and Chief of Delegation for the U.S. Joint Service Team that participated in NATO's Inter-Allied Confederation of Reserve Officers' (CIOR) annual competition, a type of military pentathlon. Captain Clark was very loyal and devoted to his family. After active duty, he changed carriers and went into business with his father. A few years later he married and had two children. This marriage ended in divorce.

Eventually he became the president and CEO of the family's life insurance company, and nurtured it into a successful business. His employees respected him and enjoyed the roses he would bring to them from his garden.

He married Chris in 1983, retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve, and later sold the insurance business. Alan spent his retirement years traveling, exercising, and enjoying life with Chris and his family.
