Michael William Braun was born on 8 February 1947.

On 26 May 1968, Sergeant Michael William Braun was serving with B Company, 3rd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Sergeant Braun was killed in action due to wounds sustained from small arms fire. His body was recovered. He received a posthumous promotion to Staff Sergeant.
