On 28 November 1966, Private Richard Carl Brandt was serving with I Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Private Brandt sustained multiple wounds from small arms fire. He was declared dead on 7 December 1966. His body was recovered.
