On 4 December 1966, Airman Second Class George Michael Bevich, Jr. was serving with the 377th Air Police Squadron, 377th Combat Support Group, 7th Air Force in Gia Dinh Province, South Vietnam. [Airman Second Class has now been changed to Airman]
On that day, A2C Bevich and 3 sentry dogs were killed in action when they sustained wounds from more than 60 rounds of mortar fire on their position. A2C Bevich was the first dog handler killed in Vietnam.
