Biography:

Richard Jay Bennett
Corporal, U.S. Army

Richard Jay Bennett was born on 6 October 1949 in Norwich, NY, the son of Richard and Reatha Albright Bennett.

Richard graduated from the Sherburne-Earlville Central School in June 1968.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1968 and received Basic Infantry Training at Fort Dix, NJ, and went to Fort Polk, LA, for jungle training.

On 12 May 1969, Private First Class Richard Jay Bennett was serving with C Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division in Tay Ninh Province in South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Bennett was killed in action when he suffered multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered.

He received a posthumous promotion to Corporal.
