While a Commander, John Douglas Andrew received the Silver Star Medal for his actions during the period 19-24 October 1944, while serving as Captain of the USS Aulick during operations in Leyte Gulf and Surigao Strait, Philippine Islands.

Death and Burial

Rear Admiral John Douglas Andrew died on 29 September 1982. He is interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
