Peter Mary Nee On 31 March 1969, Lance Corporal Peter Mary Nee was serving with H Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. On that day, LCpl Nee was killed in action when he sustained multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered. Peter was one of 13 Irish-born American servicemen to be killed in Vietnam. Medals and Awards Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device Honors The name Peter M Nee is located on Panel W28 Line 99 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Desire to Be an American Peter was born in Connemara, Ireland. After coming to the United States, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on 15 April 1968 at Boston, MA, and was very proud to be a Marine. He enlisted to prove himself worthy of U.S. citizenship. Peter was awarded his citizenship posthumously by an Act of Congress. He was one of 13 Irish-born American Servicemen to be killed in Vietnam. Peter, his love of America, and his great sacrifice to protect its freedoms, will never be forgotten.
