Wilbur William Feineman Wilbur William Feineman, a native of St. Louis, MO, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in the Class of 1916. Following graduation, Feineman had five years of sea duty serving in the USS Wyoming, USS Mt. Vernon, USS Harrisburg and USS New Mexico. He then had temporary duty at the Naval Academy with the Navy Rifle Team before attending Postgraduate School at Annapolis. He continued studies in Engineering at Columbia University, among other places, from June 1922 to September 1923. In November 1923, he was assigned to the USS Mississippi. From 1926-1928, he was attached to the board of Inspection and Survey, Pacific Coast Section, San Francisco, CA. The next year he was Squadron Engineer Officer on the staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron Twelve, Battle Fleet, after which he again served in USS Mississippi. He reported as an instructor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Physics at the Naval Academy in January 1930. In June 1934 he assumed command of the USS Tracy. Two years later he joined the USS Arizona as First Lieutenant and Damage Control Officer. He retired in June 1937. Feineman was recalled to active duty in October 1939 as Assistant Neutrality Officer, Eleventh Naval District, San Pedro, CA. In November 1941, he became Executive Officer at the Naval Operating Base in San Pedro with additional duty as Neutrality Officer. He retired in September 1945. In Retirement In civilian life, Feineman served for twelve years as an Appraiser with the California Department of Highways. Death Captain Wilbur William Feineman died in Long Beach, CA, on 14 June 1970. Funeral services were held in the All Saints Episcopal Church in Long Beach. Family Captain Feineman was survived by his wife, Martha, of Long Beach; a son, Jack, of San Jose, CA; a daughter, Virginia Feineman Thornhill, of Arlington, VA; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. |
