On 21 January 1969, Specialist Four Donald Eugene Allan, Jr., was serving as an Armor Reconnaissance Specialist with H Troop, 17th Cavalry, 198th Infantry Brigade, in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam.

On that day he was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire.
