CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Moses D. Atkins, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 353d Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, A.E.F., near St. Mihiel, France, September 12 - 13, 1918.
Though he was wounded at the outset of the attack, Captain Atkins continued to lead his company with skill and entire disregard of danger, until during the attack on Thiaucourt when he was wounded a second time so severely that he was unable to proceed.
