Ralph Emerson Truman Ralph Emerson Truman was born on 10 May 1880. A career Army officer, he graduated from West Point, served in the Spanish-American War, Philippine Insurrection, Mexican Expedition and World War I. He is best noted for being the first cousin of President Harry S. Truman and for serving as Commanding General of the U.S. Army's 35th Division that was sent to France during World War II. Personal His son, Louis W. Truman, was a Lieutenant General in the U.S. Army. He was Aide-de-Camp to Lt. Gen. Walter C. Short, Commanding General of the Hawaiian Department, when the Japanese launched their surprise attack at Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. His final command was Commanding General of Third Army. Death and Burial Major General Ralph Emerson Truman died 30 April 1962. He is buried at Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, MO. |
