John Joseph Seerley, Jr. John Joseph Seerley, Jr. was born on 21 November 1897 inBurlington, IA, the son of U.S. Congressman Joseph John Seerley. He graduated from the University of Chicago and received a law degree and a C.P.A. designation. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War I, serving as a Lieutenant assigned to the 13th Aero Squadron, France, and in August 1918 scored 5 air combat victories. Returning home after the war, he established his own investment company in Chicago, IL. Accepting a commission in Air Intelligence during World War II as a Major, he served as Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3, 8th Fighter Command and was awarded the Air Medal and a Silver Star. He was killed in a vehicle accident in Tetsworth, Oxfordshire, England. Death and Burial Major John Joseph Seerley, Jr. died on 21 August 1943 in Tetsworth, England. He is buried at the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial in Coton, England. |
