Eleazar Wheelock Ripley Eleazar Wheelock Ripley was born on 15 April 1782. Ripley was a lawyer and politician who served in the Massachusetts Legislature from 1807-09. He fought in the War of 1812 and was appointed Brigadier General on 15 April 1814. He was brevetted Major General on 25 July 1814, and received a Congressional Gold Medal for his services. Serving in the Army until 1820, he moved to Louisiana, becoming a prominent lawyer and planter. He was elected to represent Louisiana's 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1835 until his death in office in 1839. Death and Burial Eleazar Wheelock Ripley died on 2 March 1839. He is buried at Locust Grove Cemetery in Saint Francisville, LA. |
