Roy V. Rickard Roy V. Rickard was born on 27 October 1891 in Osseo, WI. Rickard was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1917, serving various provost assignments, in the Panama Canal Zone and the Philippines. In 1940, he shifted to field of supply, as Colonel in command of the G-4 Section 9th Corps Area at the Presidio of San Francisco. During World War II, he participated in the Kiska operation in the Aleutians as a landing force commander. Promoted to Brigadier General in 1944, he served as Commander of 9th Army until the end of the war. After a brief tour of duty in the U.S., he returned to Europe as Assistant Inspector General, Provost Marshal and Chief of Special Services of the European Command. He retired from the Army as a Major General in 1951. Death and Burial Major General Roy V. Rickard died on 7 January 1975. He is buried at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, OR. |
