Robert Urie Patterson Robert Urie Patterson was born on 16 June 1877 in Montreal, Canada. After completing medical studies at McGill University, he graduated with honors from the U.S. Army Medical School in 1902. For conspicuous gallantry in action in the Philippines, he was awarded two Silver Star Medals and in World War I, he received the Distinguished Service Medal. During the postwar years, he served as an Instructor at the U.S. Army War College; General Staff War Department Medical Director; U.S. Veteran's Bureau; and Executive Officer, Office of the Surgeon General. From June 1931 to May 1935, he served as U.S. Surgeon General and retired from the Army a Major General in November 1935. Death and Burial Major General Robert Urie Patterson died of pneumonia on 6 December 1950 at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
