Frank Stuart Patterson Frank Stuart Patterson was born in 1896 in Dayton, OH. He was the son and nephew of the co-founders of National Cash Register. Patterson was a Test Pilot with the U.S. Army Air Service who was killed in 1918 during a flight test of a new mechanism for synchronizing machine gun and propeller. A tie rod broke during a dive from 15,000 feet that caused the wings to separate from his Airco DH.4. Honors On 6 July 1931, Patterson's name was added to the field that is now known as Wright-Patterson Air Force Base located near Dayton, OH. Death and Burial First Lieutenant Frank Stuart Patterson died on 19 June 1918 as a result of a plane crash. He is buried at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum in Dayton, OH. |
