Darrow Menoher Darrow Menoher was born on 25 December 1910 in St. Augustine, FL, to Major General Charles Thomas Menoher, U.S. Army, and Nannie Pearson Menoher. Little is known about Menoher's Army service. After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy, he entered the U.S. Army in 1922 where as a First Lieutenant he served as an Aide-de-Camp for his father in Honolulu, HI. During the period 1926-30, Menoher was a Captain in the 2nd Cavalry. At the time of his death, he had reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Menoher was married to Dorothy Ashley, who died at an early age. He then married Susan Elizabeth Owens and the couple lived happily in Denver, CO, until Darrow's untimely death from a cerebral aneurysm. Personal In addition to his father, Menoher had two brothers who served in the military; Preston (1892-1958), who retired as a Brigadier General in the U.S. Army; and William (1910-1978,) a career Army officer who retired as a Colonel in 1955. William married Darrow's widow, Susan Elizabeth Menoher, in 1947. A third brother, Charles (1891-1922), was U.S. Military Academy Class of 1915. Death and Burial Lieutenant Colonel Darrow Menoher died on 23 August 1943 in Denver, CO. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Susan Elizabeth Menoher. |
