Biography:

SP4 Albert Ward of Sheldon Missouri killed in action in Vietnam02/25/1968 Official word was received tuesday by the family that Army SP4 Albert Ward 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Ward, Rt. 1, Sheldon, had been killed in action vietnam on Feb. 25, 1968. He was stationed in Vietnam with the Army 1st Cavalry Airborne and it is understood that he was a member of the crew of a helicopter which was shot down. The young soldier was born in the Philippine Islands, March 12, 1947, the son of Harrison and Clara Ward. The family came to the Unites States following World War II, and in 1966 Albert received his citizenship in the United States. At the time he was employed as a Youth Corps worker at the Nevada State Hospital and the boy was honored at a surprise citizenship party, planned by his co-workers. Albert's father was a citizen of the United states and had married his mother, who was Fillipino, during his years in service during World War II. Mrs. Ward also became a citizen shortly after Albert received his citizenship. albert was a member of St. Mary's Church. Upon graduation from Sheldon High School Albert received a scholastic scholarship to the University of Missouri, however in June, 1966, he volunteers for induction into the U.S. Army. He received basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and received further training at Fort Rucker, Ala., pro to being sent to Vietnam. Survivors include his parents, seven brothers and sisters, including a half brother, Fred Perez of Kansas City Mo., Harrison Ward, Jr., Kansas City Mo, and Carl, Betty Ann, Frankie, Bobby and Mary all of the home at Sheldon Missouri. The body is being returned to Sheldon t the Beeny Funeral Home for funeral rites and interment, however it may be as much as two weeks before it arrives here, Army officials told the family.
