Ross T. McIntire Ross T. McIntire was born on 11 August 1889 in Salem, OR. McIntire received his medical degree from Williamette University in 1912 and entered the U.S. Navy Medical Corps as an Assistant Surgeon in 1917. He served aboard the cruiser New Orleans during World War I. He first met Franklin D. Roosevelt when he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy and he was names as White House Physician in 1932. He accompanied President Franklin D. Roosevelt on a cruise to Panama and Hawaii in June 1934. McIntire was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1938 and promoted to Vice Admiral in 1944. He served as President Roosevelt's personal physician until Roosevelt's death on 12 April 1945. Vice Admiral McIntire retired from the Navy in 1946. Death and Burial Vice Admiral Ross T. McIntire died on 8 December 1959 in Chicago, IL. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington. VA. |
