Thomas McGregor Thomas McGregor was born in 1837. At the age of 16, after heading to California for the gold rush, he was attacked by Indians. He responded by joining the U.S. Cavalry and he served in the Civil War under Generals Ulysses Grant and William Sherman, being wounded twice. Later In his career, he served in Idaho, Arizona, Washington and Oregon, fighting in various Indian Campaigns. By the time he retired in 1901, he had been promoted to Brigadier General and had also fought in the Spanish-American War in Cuba and in the Philippines during the Boxer uprising. Death and Burial Brigadier General Thomas McGregor died on 4 February 1921. He is buried at San Francisco National Cemetery in San Francisco, CA. |
