Isaac Maltby Isaac Maltby was born on 10 November 1767 in Northford, CT. A 1786 graduate of Yale College with a degree in Divinity, his military career began in 1803 upon his commission as a Major in the Massachusetts Militia. From 1809-10, he served as a member of the Massachusetts State Legislature as Representative from Hatfield, Hampshire County. In 1812, Maltby was appointed a member of the U.S. Presidential Electoral College. In 1813, he was promoted to Brigadier General and served throughout the remainder of the War of 1812 commanding the Second Brigade of the Fourth Massachusetts Division. During the war, he successfully defended the coast of Boston against British invasion. In 1816, he was again elected to the Massachusetts State Legislature. Maltby moved to Waterloo, Seneca County, NY, in 1818. He authored several books concerning warfare, including "Elements of War," "Military Tactics," and "A Treatise on Courts-Martial and Military Law." Death and Burial Brigadier General Isaac Maltby died on 9 September 1819 in Waterloo, NY. He is buried at Elisha Williams Cemetery in Waterloo. |
