Biography:

Philip Smith, Jr.
Sergeant, U.S. Army

On 22 May 1968, then-Specialist Four Philip Smith, Jr. was serving with B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 32nd Artillery, 23rd Artillery Group, in Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SPC4 Smith was killed in action when he sustained burns from a hostile action. His body was recovered.

Smith received a posthumous promotion to the rank of Sergeant.
