Gary Edward Luck Gary Edward Luck was born on 5 August 1937 in Alma, MI. He is a 1959 graduate of Kansas State University and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant from the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in 1959. His major commands include serving as Commander of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) with the rank of Major General from 1989-90, and serving as Commanding General of the XVIII Airborne Corps (1990-93) in the Gulf War under the command of Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr. His last military assignment before retiring from active duty was as Commander-in-Chief, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command, Korea. General Gary Edward Luck retired from active Army Service in 1994. Medals, Awards, Badges & Tabs Defense Distinguished Service Medal Honors General Luck was a 2005 recipient of the Doughboy Award from the National Infantry Association. In Retirement He was an advisor to General Tommy Franks prior to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Gary E. Luck serves in an senior advisory capacity at the U.S. Joint Forces Command. He was sent to Iraq in early 2005 to investigate areas of operation there, identify any weaknesses, and report back to commanders at The Pentagon with a confidential assessment on what can be done to install democracy in Iraq, and to set a date for the withdrawal for American and coalition forces. |
