CPL JAMES DOIL RADER
“Doil,” as he was called, was raised in Yorktown, Virginia, along with sister, Mona, and brothers, Butch and Charlie. He attended two years of High School at York High and then attended Frederick Military Academy in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he graduated in 1964. His childhood friend, Jim Cook, describes him as “his hero”. Jim remembers cooking crabs at the beach with Doil, and his family. He joined the Marines and his family relocated to Cape Coral, Florida in 1966.
He was on his second tour of duty in Vietnam, telling his friends it was too boring back in the World. He gave his life on December 6, 1967 in a battle in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. He served with Co C, 1sr BN, 4th Marines, 3rd Mar Div, III MAF.
Many of his buddies sent e-mails talking about him being a good Marine and a great friend. They have wonderful memories of him.
He received a Purple Heart, Marine Corps Commendation, Combat Action, National Defense, Vietnam Service w/2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Vietnam civil Actions Unit Citation, Vietnam Campaign Medals.
DAV Chapter 108 is named in his honor.
