Jefferson Randolph Kean Jefferson Randolph Kean was born on 27 June 1860 in Lynchburg, VA. He graduated from the University of Virginia. Kean served on the western frontier against the Sioux from 1890 to 1891, and in the Spanish-American War from 1898 to 1902. During World War I, he served as the Chief of the U.S. Ambulance Service from 1917 to 1919, and as Director-General of the American Red Cross from 1916 to 1917. He received the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion d'Honneur, and the Gorgas Medal. Death and Burial Brigadier General Jefferson Randolph Kean died on 4 September 1950 in Washington, DC. He is buried at Monticello Graveyard in Charlottesville, VA. |
