Carl H. Jones Carl H. Jones was born on 17 June 1893. Jones graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1914 and served in World War I. He was the Commanding Officer of the battleship USS Maryland in the South Pacific in 1943. After participating in the assault and capture of Tarawa, he was named Sub-Area Commander of the South Pacific. He commanded the Norfolk Navy Yard from 1944 until his retirement in 1946. Death and Burial Vice Admiral Carl H. Jones died on 1 September 1958 in Annapolis, MD. He is buried at Annapolis National Cemetery in Annapolis, MD. |
