Henry K. Hoff Henry K. Hoff was born in 1809 in Pennsylvania. Hoff began his Naval career as a Midshipman from South Carolina in October 1823. He was commissioned as a Commander in February 1854 and commanded the steam sloop USS Lancaster of the Pacific squadron in 1861. He was promoted to Commodore in July 1862 and was on special duty during the Civil War as an Ordnance Officer in Philadelphia until 1867. He was made a Rear Admiral in April 1867 and commanded the North Atlantic Squadron until 1869. He retired from active service in 1870 and was President of the Board of Visitors at Annapolis. Death and Burial Rear Admiral Henry K. Hoff died on 25 December 1878. He is buried at Saint James the Less Episcopal Churchyard in Philadelphia, PA. |
