William Heath Major General, Continental Army
William Heath was born on 2 March 1737. Heath was a Colonial military leader from the outset of the Revolutionary War. He commanded militia men at the Battle of Lexington and Concord, where he led the fiercest Minuteman attack on British troops. He then commanded a Division of Continental troops under George Washington in the Battles of Long Island, Harlem Heights and White Plains. After Benedict Arnold's treason, Major General Heath was given Arnold's Hudson River command, where he was in charge of defending the strategic positions at West Point, NY. Death and Burial Major General William Heath died on 24 January 1814. He is buried at Forest Hills Cemetery and Crematory in Jamaica Plain, MA. |
