Donald was the son of Donald Lincoln and Elva Leone McIntosh Lukens. Donald attended Limestone Community High School in Bartonville, IL as a sophomore in 1966. He then attended Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox, IL as a junior and senior. He graduated in Jun 1968. He enlisted in the US Army on 30 Mar 1970. He was assigned to TRP B, 1st Cav, 164th AVN GP. On 25 May 1970, he was a co-pilot of a helicopter when he was hit and fatally wounded by ground fire. He was the only crewman to sustain an injury during the mission. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart. His remains were recovered. He was buried in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, IL. His name is recorded on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
