Biography:

SFC LEO FRED JOHNSON

Leo was born on January 21, 1932, to Johnny Fred Johnson and Eunice Inez Kirkland Johnson, location unknown. Little is know about his young life, but he married a girl named Mary Ada Hemphill, at Palm Beach, Florida 1951, and had a son Johnny Ray Johnson who was born June 30, 1968 and died April 2, 1973. He may have attended college at the University of Denver, Colorado in 1952,

He entered the Army with a hometown of Clewiston, Florida. His tour of duty in Vietnam began on January 12, 1969, as a Cook with HHC, 4TH BN, 3RD INFANTRY, 11TH INFANTRY BDE, AMERICAL DIV. SFC Johnson had been in the Army for 18 years. On October 11, 1969, he died of a heart attack in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam.

He received an Infantry Shoulder Cord, Bronze Star, Army Good Conduct w/silver knot, National Defense, Vietnam Service w/ Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Medals.
