PFC ROBERT FULTON HELVESTON,
Robert was, born on July 20, 1948, to Mr, and Mrs, Grady Helveston. He grew up in the Tice neighborhood of Fort Myers, with three sisters and two brothers. His favorite hobby was hunting and he always dreamed of hunting elephants.
He joined the Army, and after finishing his training, he visited back in Fort Myers in early December. He wanted to go to Vietnam and had selected the job he wanted, a helicopter gunner. His tour in Vietnam began on December 18, 1966, serving with C CO, 2ND BN, 1ST INFANTRY, 196TH INFANTRY BDE.
On February 4, 1967, he gave his life for our Country in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam.
He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medals, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
