Owen Thomas Edgar Owen Thomas Edgar was born on 17 June 1831 in Philadelphia, PA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Apprentice Second Class on 10 February 1846. He served on the frigates USS Experience, USS Pennsylvania, USS Potomac and USS Allegheny. He was discharged on 8 August 1849 and, at the time of his death, he was the last surviving veteran of the Mexican War. Civilian Life After the war, Edgar worked at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for 21 years, then worked at a bank for another 31 years. He spent his last 10 years living at the John Dickson Home in Washington, DC. Death and Burial Owen Thomas Edgar died on 3 September 1929 in Washington, DC, at the age of 98 after suffering a fall from a chair that fractured his leg.
