Biography:

SSgt. Robert John Byrnes

Robert was born May 24, 1946 to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Byrnes in Southhold, New York. His brother carries a special memento of his brother in his wallet.

He was drafted into the Army via Selective Service. Served during the Vietnam War. He began his tour on January 5, 1968. Byrnes had the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military occupation or specialty was Light Weapons Infantry. Service number assignment was 52751080. Attached to 9th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry, D Company.

During his service in the Vietnam War, Army Staff Sergeant Byrnes experienced a traumatic event which ultimately resulted in loss of life on September 22, 1968. Recorded circumstances attributed to: Died through hostile action, small arms fire. Incident location: South Vietnam, Kien Hoa province.
