Major Buis had been in the military for seventeen years when he was sent to train South Vietnamese troops as part of the Military Assistance Advisory Group. MAJ Buis was killed at Bien Hoa, twenty miles northeast of Saigon, when the Vietcong ambushed the mess hall during intermission of a movie the Americans were watching. MAJ Buis was married and the father of three sons. Major Buis' name is engraved on Panel 01E, Line 01 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
