SSGT GEORGE HAYES BARGER
George was, born on September 29, 1915, in Pennsylvania. He grew up in the little town of Howard. He was estranged from his family in Pennsylvania and had relocated to SW Florida prior to his tour in Vietnam.
He joined the Army, and was career military. His tour in Vietnam began on November 7, 1968, with the HHD, 44TH SIG BN, 160TH SIG GROUP, 1ST SIGNAL BDE.
On January 22, 1969, he gave his life for our Country in Bien Hoa Province, South Vietnam.
He was promoted posthumously and received a National Defense, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign Medals, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, and Signal Badge.
Entire Service
SSgt. George Hayes enlisted in the Navy on 22 March 1944, serving until 7 December 1945. NTS at Great Lakes. Served at U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot (USNAD)Hastings, Nebraska; and on the USS Denebola (AD-12),a destroyer tender, from September to December 1945 in the Pacific. He was transferred from the Camp Shoemaker, U. S. Naval Training and Distribution Center (TADCEN) there. He served as a S2c, U.S. Naval Reserve.
He entered active duty in the Army on 4 October 1948. He served in the Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey in 1950 with rank of PFC. He remained on active duty until his death in 1969 In Bien Hoa.
He was interred in Hodges Funeral Home at
