On 3 March 1968, Private First Class Homer Lee Ake, Jr. was serving with B Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Ake was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
