On 22 February 1968, Lance Corporal Tony Genevevo Abeyta was serving with G Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, LCpl Abeyta died of Other Causes: Malaria. His body was recovered.
