On 22 February 1968, Private Terry Michael Abbott was serving with B Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PVT Abbott was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
