On 11 January 1971, Specialist Six James Terry Abbott was serving with 101st Criminal Investigation Detachment, 101st Military Police Company, 101st Airborne Division, in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SP6 Abbott was the victim of a homicide. His body was recovered.
