On 22 April 1966, Private First Class Denis Eugene Abbott was serving with Weapons Platoon, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in Pleiku Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Abbott sustained multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered.
