On 7 September 1970, Private First Class Eugene Allen Aaron was serving with E Troop, 1st Battalion, 17th Cavalry, 173 Airborne Brigade, in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, PFC Aaron sustained wounds from small arms fire and Died While Missing. His body was recovered.
