Private First Class Begley was a member of Headquarters Company, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. On 11 August 1953, he was killed in a truck accident near Chunchon, South Korea.

Begley was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
