Sergeant Winbush was a medic with the Medical Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was wounded while tending his wounded comrades in North Korea on 24 February 1952 and returned to duty on 5 March 1952. He died of other causes in Korea on 11 May 1952.

Winbush was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
