Corporal Spry was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He suffered relapsing fever and was evacuated to the 10th Station Hospital where he died on 20 May 1951.

Spry was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
