Private First Class Marshall was a member of Company A, 11th Engineer Combat Battalion. On 25 March 1951, while a passenger on a truck near Changbong-ni, South Korea, fell off under the wheels of a trailer.

Marshall was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
