Private First Class Wilson was a member of the 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. On 15 December 1953, during a training exercise near Kongmal, North Korea, a friendly artillery round fell short of its target killing him.

Wilson was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
