Private Stephens was a medic with the 8055th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. He died of other causes on 3 July 1951 at the 121st Mobile Army Surgical Hospital.

Stephens was awarded the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
